The round is already running at the top of this page — there is no start button, no lobby, and nothing to sign up for. A prompt appears, you get 25 seconds to type an answer, and the game scores how deep your answer sits in the crowd. Seven prompts make a dive. Your total is the sum of those seven answers, measured in metres, with a hard floor of 7,000 m.

If you want the maths before you play, the full breakdown of the six tiers explains why “Paris” is worth 100 m and “Yttrium” is worth 850.

Scoring

How scoring works

Every prompt has a hidden answer table. Each answer is tagged with a rarity tier, and the tier decides both your points and how deep you land. Guessing the first thing that comes to mind is worth something — but only a tenth of the rarest answers.

  • Plankton10 pts · 100 m
  • Too Clever15 pts · 150 m
  • Schooler30 pts · 300 m
  • Rare60 pts · 600 m
  • Deep Cut85 pts · 850 m
  • Krillion100 pts · 1000 m

Depth is points × 10. A perfect dive is 7 × 1,000 m = 7,000 m, which requires seven krillion-tier answers in a row. Read the full scoring reference.

Why this exists

Why this is free

Krillion's endless mode is the part of the game people want to practise most, and it is also the part that is easiest to run out of. Practice needs volume: you get better at rare answers by missing them a hundred times and reading the reveal. A paywall on top of that turns practice into a purchase decision.

Depth Engine is free because it costs almost nothing to run. It is a static Next.js build on Vercel, there is no database, no account system, and no server-side game loop. The only real cost is the prompt bank, and that is a text file we keep expanding.

What we do not do: we do not unlock the official game, we do not mirror its content, and we do not sell anything. If you want the real thing, play the real thing. If you want reps, stay here.

FAQ

FAQ

Is this the official Krillion unlimited mode?
No. Depth Engine is an independent, fan-made practice tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the team behind Krillion. We do not host the official game, we do not unlock anything inside it, and we do not sell access to it. What we built is a separate browser game that trains the same skill: guessing the answer that is correct but not obvious.
Is it really free? Any hidden limit?
It is free and there is no limit. No account, no email, no card, no daily cap, no ads, and no upsell. You can play seven prompts, or seven hundred. The site is a static build with no server costs to recover, which is why we can keep it open.
How is this different from krillion.io's Unlimited?
The official Unlimited mode is the real thing — same prompts, same scoring, same daily shared dive. Depth Engine is a practice range: a different prompt bank, a 25-second clock, and a full post-round review called Retro Dive that shows the deeper answers you missed. Think of it as batting practice, not a replacement for the game itself.
Can I play on mobile?
Yes — the layout is built mobile-first at a 480px column, uses 100dvh so the keyboard does not shove the prompt around, and every tap target is at least 44px. The input focuses itself when each prompt is dealt, so you can play one-handed.
Do you store my data?
Only in your own browser. Your best round, round count, and recent dives live in localStorage under depth_engine_v1. Nothing is transmitted, because there is no backend to transmit to. Clearing site data erases it permanently.
